Have you got a brook in your little heart - Emily Dickinson

Have you got a brook in your little heart,
Where bashful flowers blow,
And blushing birds go down to drink,
And shadows tremble so?

And nobody, knows, so still it flows,
That any brook is there;
And yet your little draught of life
Is daily drunken there.

Then look out for the little brook in March,
When the rivers overflow,
And the snows come hurrying from the hills,
And the bridges often go.

And later, in August it may be,
When the meadows parching lie,
Beware, lest this little brook of life
Some burning noon go dry!

Such a wonderful poem on hope! Such simplicity!

Hope is impersonated in form of the little brook. Again, Emily comes across to us as "shy", "timid", "little", "nobody". It paints her living image in front of you... does it not? A shy and private person. Bashful maybe. Intensely introvert. Very delicate disposition. I love her. *sigh*.

I wonder how many times she must have wandered around in the fields of Amherst, Massachusetts. Or around her house. All by herself. Identifying herself with the sparrows, the grass, the little brook. I wish I was a time traveller. Hahahaha...

Emily wants us to keep our heads on our shoulder. And keep the hope in good and plentiful times, and in times of distress too. What a novel way to put things.
